Actor Interview – Vee Pressley

Tell us a little about you!

What’s up! My name is Vee and I’m so incredibly excited to play Wednesday! I’m going to be a senior at Deep Run High School next year, and this is my first show outside of school. When I’m not singing and working it on stage, I work as a programmer and am going to study machine learning algorithms next year.

Why did you want to be involved in this production?

My school theatre is great, but I’ve been curious what other opportunities I can find. I initially auditioned at GCT just to practice putting myself out there, not expecting to get the role at all, so when I did, I was ecstatic and completely taken aback.

Who is your favorite Addams Family member and why?

Even though Fester’s moon song is my absolute favorite, my true #1 character is Morticia. Her style and personality are just so iconic that the family wouldn’t be the same without her.

How is your character like you? How is he/she different?

Since I’m still in high school, I can definitely relate to Wednesday’s teenage struggles and the internal conflicts she faces throughout the show; however, I’ve never played a character who smiles so little! It’s difficult to keep a straight face because the show is so funny and I don’t have a smile to hide behind when someone cracks a joke.

What do you love about your character?

I love that Wednesday knows her worth. She may be young, but she’s determined to represent herself and will never compromise.

What is your favorite song to preform for this show, and why?

My favorite song to perform without a doubt is “Crazier Than You.” Not only is the tune super catchy, but it’s a sick power duet full of emotion and passion- you can’t beat it!

Who should come see this show?

EVERYONE

Who’s the funniest person in the cast in real life?

Teddy, who plays Gomez, is a riot. When I met him at auditions, we immediately hit it off.

This is GCT’s first musical production. What was the first musical that you ever performed in and what was your role?

My first musical was in kindergarten. We did a strange Spanish rendition of Little Red Riding Hood where the flowers saved the day.

Aside from this one, what is your favorite role you’ve ever played?

I just recently played Fantine in Ghostlight, which was one of my favorite roles of all time. As I got to know the character through rehearsals, I really connected with her emotionally and got to act fully; it nearly feels like flying.

Besides this one, what is your favorite stage show?

Ever since hearing about it in eighth grade, I’ve been a huge fan of Hadestown and dreamed of someday playing Eurydice.

When you have a five-minute break during rehearsal, how do you spend your time?

I drink lots and lots of water!!

What is your favorite Halloween candy?

I’m always excited to get Milky Ways! I love caramel in anything, so it’s sort of a no-brainer. I know they used to make them so they had just caramel on the inside which was delicious but absolutely sickening as well.

Tell us about your favorite memory from Halloween.

My birthday is actually on Halloween so I’ve had a lot of interesting memories. One of my favorites was when I gathered with a bunch of friends from SPARC and we walked down my street singing Hamilton all night long. It was one of the most “theatre kid” displays ever, but there’s no fun in having shame about it!
